Membership Criteria

Membership Eligibility:

WIPLA membership is open to attorneys who are licensed to practice law (and are in good standing with their State Bar Association), are either currently practicing or in transition and whose practice focuses primarily on Intellectual Property or legal executives of companies with intellectual property concerns.

Membership is also open to licensed patent agents, those admitted to the United States Patent and Trademark office, and law students interested in practicing Intellectual Property law.

“Intellectual Property” is defined by WIPLA as patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, industrial design rights and technology transactions.

WIPLA maintains full discretion over admissions decisions and its decisions are final.

 

Ineligible for membership:

  • Lawyers who have been disbarred or have disbarment proceedings pending;
  • Lawyers holding inactive bar status unless engaged in academia;
  • Individuals holding J.D. degrees but whose responsibilities are primarily other than addressing legal issues or the practice of law;
  • Individuals whose responsibilities include sales, marketing and business development in the legal market, such as recruiters, law firm marketing personnel, public relations employees, etc.
