The Women's Intellectual Property Lawyers Association (WIPLA) formed in February 2007 in Palo Alto, California, is one of the first stand-alone organizations dedicated solely to women in intellectual property law.
A statement from founders Laura Peter and Deborah Bailey-Wells noted that while women have made great strides in advancing up the ladder in the legal profession, their numbers in the IP area are "alarmingly low."
WIPLA's aim is to support and empower women intellectual property practitioners and address the challenges they face.
